ABOUT THE ARTISTS

Andrew Smenos
Andrew Smenos is a New York-based artist and curator. He was born and raised in Chicago, IL. He received his BFA from The Ringling College of Art and Design. His work is held in private and public collections nationally. Andrew's work explores personal point-of-view and countervailing notions, utilizing sardonic humor, primitive forms, vivid colors, and cultural iconography in order to encourage the viewer’s inquiry. His work creates associations that welcome discourse.

Jo-Ann Acey
Jo-Ann Acey is a Brooklyn based artist, her work is continuously evolving and changing. The images emerge from memories and imagination and reflect flashes of land, sea and dwelling places. The true essence lies in the symbolism of each work. The subject matter becomes secondary to an emotional reaction to the landscape, color or movement. My new work has direction and control, yet there remains a spontaneity and freshness of line and color. Gesture and emotion are critical elements in the work. These personal visual diaries are at once real and imagined, quick glimpses of a journey that continues onward.

Jos Prol
Jos Prol is a Brooklyn based artist who works through the mediums of painting and sculpture. His work explores the structure and meaning of nature with a particular fascination in where its borders lay in relation to human creation. He draws inspiration from the waters of the Gowanus Canal, horticulture of the Brooklyn Botanic Garden and landscape management of Prospect Park, creating images and forms that compare synthetic with organic.

Michael Watson
Michael Watson is a Brooklyn based artist. Watson's process based paintings, sculptures, installations, and performance embrace destructive and regenerative processes relying on experimental modes of production such as improvisation, destabilization and chance. He engages with found objects and natural materials such as plywood, rice and fire to mine the interstitial spaces of being, substance and imperceptibility through the use of rice and other materials as a substitute for the body.
